Jiuzhai Songcheng Romance Park
After dinner, my group walked next door to Jiuzhai Songcheng Romance Park to see the Romantic Show. A don’t-miss performance that reveals the culture of the Zang and Qiang peoples, it has been described as “Cirque de Soliel meets Broadway meets opera with a little ’Miss Saigon’ thrown in for good measure.” The auditorium is surprisingly immense, and creative staging includes performers rappelling down and walking sideways along the walls to the stage. During an earthquake enactment, the seats actually shake. When Tibetan prayer flags appear dramatically overhead at the end, the Chinese audience stands with hands over heart in prayer position to honor their ancestors.

Minjianghaoting International Hotel
(also listed under Minjiangyuan) This pleasant lower-end hotel has only a shower available, no bath tubs. The dining room is bare and the food minimal, plus the floor in the dining area was super slippery--I think from steam.

Zhangzha Town looks like a lively and colourful place to visit. I love that hotel bathroom, and the food looks grat too (even though I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to try a pig's ear...)
ReplyDeleteThat Romance Park in Zhangzha town looks like great fun, and that Howard Johnson looks a lot more upscale that most! What does yak butter tea taste like?
ReplyDeleteAs I recall, pretty salty and pretty yucky.
DeleteZhangzha Town looks like a fun place to explore and the hotel looks very comfortable. I'm not so sure about the marinated pig's ear though.
ReplyDeleteEnlightening that there is still a Howard Johnson somewhere:-)
ReplyDeleteThe last time I stayed at a Howard Johnson's property I gave it no stars on TripAdvisor, so your post has restored my faith in the brand. I'm with Karen Warren on the pig's ear. That would have to be a be a pass.
